The Clinical Coordinator role supports the staff nurse team by managing shift responsibilities, coordinating patient care provision, scheduling and assignment, and delegating tasks. The coordinator facilitates patient care evaluation, contributes to process improvement, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to solve unit issues. Responsibilities also include performance appraisal input, staff educational support, participation in unit and hospital activities, and demonstration of personal and professional goal commitment.
In addition, the Clinical Care Coordinator performs an abbreviated patient care assignment that ensures leadership responsibilities are fulfilled.
- Functions as lead and resource person for nursing personnel.
- Acts as a clinical resource person and assists clinical manager in planning and facilitating staff meetings and staff development.
- Collaborates with manager in prospective monitoring of the schedule to assure adequate nurse-patient ratio on a given shift, reviewing monthly schedule and communicating staffing changes.
- Facilitates shared decision making among staff and improves unit throughput to reduce LOS.
- Coordinates/provides in-service programs to maintain or enhance competence in job responsibilities.
- May assist manager with interview, selection, retention, mentoring, and evaluation of staff.
- Participates in development of policies, procedures and standards for the department.
- Assists with department Process Improvement and Peer Review.
- Associates Degree/Diploma required. BSN preferred.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
- One to two years of progressively more responsible experience with evidence of increasing leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, delegate to others and facilitate processes.
- Minimum Level 6 of the Promoting Excellence Performance Criteria; internal candidate preferred.
- BLS required; ACLS preferred.
