Expand your nursing skills in a supportive, team-based environment by joining the 31-bed Pulmonary Medicine Center at Mercy Cedar Rapids. This fast-paced medical-surgical unit specializes in caring for a wide range of patients, including COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, renal failure, cellulitis, diabetes, dementia, peritonitis, and COVID-19. No two days are the same, offering learning opportunities and growth in confidence and competence.

Schedule- 2-12 hour shifts 7a-7:30p with every third weekend and rotating holidays
- 24 hours/week = part-time pay & benefits
As an RN in the Pulmonary Medicine Center, you will:
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care using evidence-based practices
- Monitor and support patients with complex medical needs
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the care team at hand-offs
- Educate patients and families to support recovery and safe discharge
- Document care accurately in real time
- Respond effectively to emergencies and changing conditions
- Lead and delegate tasks to nursing assistants and support staff

The RN works with unit team members to identify clinical problems, develop plans, and educate patients and families. - Job Description
- Communicate accurate and clinically relevant information with patients, families, and co-workers at hand-offs and as needed, ensuring necessary information is shared for optimal patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate competent assessment, planning, intervention, coordination and evaluation based on the individual care plan.
- Continually assess patient and family needs to provide quality, patient-centered care.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and judgment to implement the patient plan of care and nursing interventions.
- Maintain accurate, real-time documentation of nursing care to support team information sharing.
- Serve as a role model to create a healthy work environment to meet unit goals.
- Respect the dignity of patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a professional environment.
- Direct other licensed and non-licensed personnel in care as assigned.
- Demonstrate effective, age-appropriate communication, considering fears, anxieties and language/cultural barriers.
- Respond to emergencies and life-threatening conditions within scope of practice.
- Adhere to patient safety practices throughout the patient experience.
- Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team.
- Provide ongoing education to patients and families.
- Delegate to other nursing staff and department roles as appropriate.
- Follow Mercy safety guidelines and promptly report unsafe conditions or incidents.
Specific Duties
Pulmonary Medicine Center
- Successfully completes yearly training on Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
- Sound background in basic nursing principles and procedures
- Competent in unit-specific skills
- Ability to provide safe and effective basic nursing care
- Exemplary customer service skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication and phone etiquette
- Creates a welcoming environment for all team members
