Summary DescriptionThe Nurse Extern II (NE II) is a member of the patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi‑skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The NE II works under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the NE II’s skills and abilities. The NE II reports all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
The specific patient care tasks may vary widely in type and frequency depending on the unit or service line. The NE II is assigned to an experienced RN each shift and assists with providing patient care such as ADLs, vitals, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care tech or equivalent. The assigned RN instructs and mentors the NE II in the clinical area and provides ongoing feedback.
- Work under the supervision of a registered nurse and follow delegated tasks.
- Report any deviations from expected patient parameters.
- Assist with providing patient care including ADLs, vital sign monitoring, ambulation, and other duties within scope.
- Accept assignments from the supervising RN and collaborate with the patient care team.
- Support patient care technology and maintain cleanliness and safety of the environment.
- Enrollment as a nursing student, starting 6 months before graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Completion of all senior nursing courses during the application period.
- Knowledge of basic nursing principles and patient care skills.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work in a fast‑paced, Level I Trauma Center environment.
