General Summary
Administers intravenous, inhalation, and regional anesthetics to render persons insensible to pain during surgical procedures, obstetrical deliveries, or other medical and dental procedures. Potentially administers anesthesia to all ages and A.S.A. classes of patients, including geriatrics and pediatrics. Provides airway management services as needed throughout the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in the professional practice setting.
  • Supports and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
  • Delegates tasks to assistive personnel in a respectful professional manner.
  • Identifies patient problems and collaborates with the Anesthesia/Surgeon/Perioperative team in the selection of appropriate interventions (tasks).
  • Interacts with members of the health care team to plan and coordinate the perioperative care.
  • Promotes a healthy work environment through promotion of professional communication standards, commitment to co-workers, and positive problem resolution.
  • Conducts appropriate pre-anesthetic assessments, and documents findings.
  • In collaboration with the anesthesiologist, determines the appropriate anesthetic plan of management, and manages all aspects of anesthesia care to include preoperative, perioperative, and immediate postoperative care.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation of care for all procedures.
  • Provides airway management and/or intubations for emergent, non-emergent, and resuscitation situations throughout the hospital.
  • Anticipates and meets patients and customers' expectations that align with the Henry Ford Experience.
  • Identifies services and care improvement ideas and acts on them to create excellent customer experiences.
  • Demonstrates, supports, and maintains accountability for upholding standards across the System and adherence to Henry Ford Health policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes the unique contributions of all health care team members to the patient experience.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Independently uses and documents the nursing process to plan, deliver, and evaluate goal-focused, individualized, safe, age-specific care for all patients, including those with complex pathophysiological or psychosocial needs.
  • Seeks to understand and incorporate safe practices and evidence-based practices into daily nursing care.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory standards regarding practice, environment, and documentation.
  • Directs and delegates nursing care based on patient acuity and staff competency, aligned with the nurse’s obligation to provide optimum patient care.
  • Participates in quality improvement/patient safety initiatives and programs.

Education/Experience Required
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of anesthesia.
  • Master’s degree required.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in collaborative situations with anesthesiologists and other health care providers.

  • Clinical Privileges
  • State of Michigan RN License
  • State Specialty Certification
  • CRNA Certification
  • ALS Certification
  • BLS Certification
