The Sr. Machine Technician assists the Assistant Manager by providing direction, establishing priorities, assigning tasks, and coordinating work projects of Machine Technicians. In addition, the Sr. Machine Technician will perform alongside Machine Technicians to set up, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to OSHA Safety, and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives.
Works cooperatively with Production Manager, Assistant Managers and Supervisors to achieve maximum production of equipment.
- Assist Assistant Manager in the coordination of Machine Technicians for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Assist technicians as required to support them in the completion of their work activities.
- Maintain accurate records regarding preventative maintenance, service requests (received and completed), expenditures, work‑in‑progress, etc.
- Schedule and perform routine maintenance on all appropriate equipment on a regular basis, inspecting and maintaining all tools in excellent condition.
- Indoctrinate and assist in the development of maintenance technician staff, instilling a “safety first” attitude.
- Oversee and maintain adequate inventory of spare parts and maintenance materials to handle most common repairs and situations.
- Perform highly diversified duties to maintain production machines.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Perform machine set‑ups and train machine operators in the daily maintenance and setup of their machines.
- Perform mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of production machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replacing or repairing parts, testing, and adjusting.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines.
- Detect faulty operations and defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Perform other work‑related duties as assigned.
- A degree in engineering with a mechanical specialty and at least ten years of cognitive and vocational experience in handling machine and machine parts.
- Must exhibit outstanding ability to demonstrate and train others on the fundamentals of machine functioning.
- Excellent general understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical components, and programmable logic controllers.
- Must be able to diagnose and solve malfunctions using a combination of technical expertise and analytical thinking and guide others into resolving problems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment with advanced level skill in Microsoft Office.
