Maintenance Technician – Cleveland-Cliffs

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is a North America‑premier processor, buyer, seller and recycler of scrap metals. FPT is wholly owned by Cleveland‑Cliffs and offers a Maintenance Technician position at our Detroit, Michigan operation. The role involves repair and maintenance of machinery and production equipment.

• Ensure adherence to safety standards, use required PPE, remove hazards, and maintain site cleanliness.
• Visually inspect and listen to machines to locate malfunctions.
• Change hose assemblies and conveyor belts.
• Remove and replace worn or defective parts of the drive mechanism or hydraulic system.
• Locate damaged air and hydraulic pipes and install new ones.
• Start machines to test operation following repair.
• Perform cleaning duties related to yard and plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain all plant and yard equipment and machines.
• Torch cutting and welding.

• High School Diploma or GED and at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of one year experience as a machine repair technician.
• 2 years trade school preferred.
• Experience with mobile equipment repair preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, self‑motivated, and self‑directed.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication instructions.
• Ability to climb ladders or stairs to reach objects.
• Ability to endure physical and outdoor work daily.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Must be able to work in an environment with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and weather changes.
• Pre‑employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.
