Shipping and Receiving Clerk
LocationDetroit, MI.
Shift AvailableMonday-Friday (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM) Pay: $19.00/hr
Position SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented Shipping and Receiving Clerk with strong computer skills and hands-on experience in shipping/receiving operations. The ideal candidate will also be experienced in operating a hi-lo (forklift) and capable of handling daily logistics tasks in a fast-paced environment. This role is critical to maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring timely shipments, and supporting overall warehouse efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against packing lists or purchase orders.
- Accurately enter data into inventory and shipping systems (e.g., ERP, WMS, or shipping platforms like UPS World Ship or Fed Ex).
- Prepare outgoing shipments, including labeling, packaging, and coordinating with carriers.
- Maintain organized records of received goods and shipped materials.
- Load and unload trucks using a hi-lo/forklift safely and efficiently as needed.
- Coordinate with internal departments (production, customer service, purchasing) to ensure timely material flow.
- Conduct inventory counts and assist with cycle counts as needed.
- Identify and report any damages, shortages, or discrepancies immediately.
- Maintain a clean and orderly shipping/receiving area.
- Follow all safety procedures and participate in safety programs.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in shipping and receiving.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and shipping software.
- Experience using inventory management or ERP systems is a plus.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating a forklift in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Ability to safely load, unload, move, and stage materials using a forklift or pallet jack.
- Working knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, including packing, labeling, and verifying shipments.
- Ability to accurately count, inspect, and record incoming and outgoing materials.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure correct items, quantities, and documentation.
- Comfortable using computers for data entry, inventory tracking, and shipping paperwork.
- Ability to read work orders, bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification if not currently certified).
- Experience with inventory management systems or ERP software.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to assist in other areas as needed.
- Clear and respectful communicator with supervisors and coworkers.
- Takes ownership of work and follows safety and operational procedures consistently.
- Willingness to learn and adapt as processes and priorities evolve.
