Powerwell is a leading recruitment firm that connects top talent with exciting career opportunities. We are seeking an IP Patent Paralegal on behalf of a highly respected client in the Legal Services industry. This role can be based in Detroit, MI;
Kalamazoo, MI;
Grand Rapids, MI;
Chicago, IL; or Washington, D.C.

Base Pay Range

$75,000.00/yr - $/yr

About the Role:

In this role, you will support intellectual property (IP) matters, focusing on patent-related processes. You will assist with domestic and international filings, maintain docketing systems, and manage patent-related correspondence. This is a great opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual with experience in patent filings to grow in a collaborative and high-performing legal environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate domestic and international filings with the USPTO and foreign law offices.
  • Maintain docket systems for key actions, including responses, renewals, oppositions, PCT requirements, and patent annuities.
  • Prepare and file documents related to U.S. and foreign patents, including assignments.
  • Draft client correspondence and summary reports.
  • Handle and act on correspondence from foreign associates.
  • Conduct legal research, including USPTO and industry database searches.
  • Assist with legalizations, certifications, and records of license agreements and related matters.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred: Paralegal certification.
  • At least 2+ years of experience in patent filings and related legal tasks.
  • Familiarity with U.S. and foreign patent processes (prosecution, maintenance, renewals).
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, and research databases (e.g., Innovation, PATTSY, Lexis/Nexis).
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling a high volume of work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to professionalism, adaptability, and willingness to grow and learn new tools.
