One is pleased to partner with a boutique appellate law firm in Detroit in their search for a Senior Appellate Attorney to join their expanding appellate group in a partner-track role
.
The Senior Appellate Attorney leads appellate litigation from issue identification through final disposition, serving as the primary strategist and author on complex appeals. This role requires exceptional writing and advocacy skills, the ability to manage matters independently, and a commitment to mentoring junior attorneys and contributing to firm growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead appellate matters from issue identification through disposition
- Serve as primary author of appellate briefs, dispositive motions, and petitions
- Develop and execute appellate strategy in coordination with trial teams and clients
- Present oral arguments before state and federal appellate courts
- Advise trial counsel on issue preservation and appellate risk
- Supervise and mentor junior appellate attorneys
- Ensure compliance with appellate rules, deadlines, and best practices
- Contribute to business development, client relationships, and firm initiatives
- Publish, speak, or otherwise contribute to appellate thought leadership
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with applicable state bar(s)
- 8+ years of appellate or complex litigation experience (lateral partners with 10+ years encouraged to apply)
- Substantial experience drafting and arguing appeals in state and/or federal courts
- Demonstrated ability to manage appellate matters independently
- Judicial clerkship experience, particularly at the appellate level, strongly preferred

Applicants will be expected to provide a writing sample during the interview process.
All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time. Infrequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
