• This position pays between $18.15 - $20.00 based on experience

This position is on-site and candidate must be able to work at Mercy - St Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, OH

Interviews uninsured/under-insured patients to determine eligibility for state Medicaid benefits or location Financial Assistance programs. Assists with application processes to facilitate accurate and appropriate submissions. Follows up on submitted applications to ensure timely billing or adjustment processing.

• Review referred uninsured/under-insured patients for program eligibility opportunities, initiating and coordinating the application process to facilitate accurate submissions
• Communicate with patients to obtain documents needed for the application
• Follow submitted applications to determination point, update insurance information, and ensure timely billing or adjustment posting
• Document all relevant actions and communication steps in assigned patient accounting systems
• Maintain working knowledge of state and federal program requirements; share information with colleagues and supervisors
• Develop and maintain proactive relationships with county/state/federal Medicaid caseworkers, and collaborate with other revenue cycle departments
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum years and type of experience:

• 1-2 years of experience in the healthcare industry, interacting with patients regarding hospital financial issues

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred:

• Understanding of Revenue Cycle including admissions, billing, payments and denials
• Knowledge of patient insurance processes for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification
• Knowledge of health insurance requirements; familiarity with medical terminology or CPT codes
• Patient Access experience with managed care/insurance and call center experience preferred

Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma or GED. Combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree

Certifications:

• CRCR within 9 months of hire
