GENERAL

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Direct Service Professional (DSP) Apprentice provides essential training and support to elderly individuals and those with disabilities. Support is delivered in various settings including homes, workplaces, and community environments. Key responsibilities include transportation, meal preparation, cleaning, and skill-building, employment supports activities to promote independence and quality of life.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum high school diploma; must be over the age of 18
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license, three (3) years of driving experience
  • Demonstrate Flexibility, compassion, good communication and computer proficiency
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Successfully complete all required training and competency assessments.
  • Review and work on goals outlined in Service Plans for all assigned participants.
  • Meet with and complete tasks assigned by staff assigned mentor.
  • Provide training and support to program participants with disabilities and/or memory limitations.
  • Facilitate access to recreational, cultural, and religious experiences.
  • Provide transportation to program participants using agency vehicle.
  • Offer physical support to participants with mobility, balance, or strength limitations.
  • Follow all procedures for safe medication administration and documentation.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings as assigned
  • Maintain accurate and timely digital progress notes that document participant activities and goal progression in computerized database.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards, including:
    National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics & Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) guidelines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Residential, Choices, & Brown Program Specific Duties
    • Assist participants with domestic tasks including cooking, cleaning, and recreational activities.
    • Support participants in improving daily living skills, vocational tasks, hobbies, and social/community engagement.
    • Facilitate access to recreational, cultural, and religious experiences.
  • Vocational Services and Vocational Rehabilitation Services Specific Duties
    • Provide on-the-job training and supports to assist individuals in completing assigned work tasks.
    • Role model and work alongside program participants as assigned
    • Communicate with community partners, employers, caregivers and staff to ensure continuity of services.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Office, residential and community settings with varying sizes
  • Sit, stand, and use a computer

Physical requirements:

  • Stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer and medication administration work.
  • Ability to stand, lift, reach, and bend continuously for at least 4 hours
  • Moderate lifting is required.
