Location: Detroit, MI 48202

Job Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 5 × 8-Hour Day Shifts
Schedule: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Guaranteed Hours: Dependent on facility requirements

Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering prescribed radiation therapy treatments safely and accurately. This role involves patient positioning, operation of radiation therapy equipment, documentation, and collaboration with the clinical care team to ensure high-quality patient care.

Job Responsibilities
  • Review patient prescriptions to determine treatment type, affected areas, and prior radiation history.
  • Safely position patients using appropriate immobilization devices.
  • Utilize prescribed treatment accessories.
  • Operate treatment equipment including linear accelerators and HDR systems with precision.
  • Administer ionizing radiation as prescribed by the physician.
  • Verify radiation prescriptions prior to treatment and confirm total dose following treatment.
  • Document treatments accurately in patient charts.
  • Localize and verify patient markings daily.
  • Perform ongoing imaging per departmental policies.
  • Assist patients with scheduling daily treatments, transportation coordination, and related appointments.
  • Refer patients to social workers, nurses, or physicians as appropriate.
  • Perform simulation duties as assigned.
  • Rotate through treatment areas as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of therapy rooms, linens, and medical supplies.
  • Adhere to departmental quality assurance policies (chart checks, timeouts, machine warm-up, etc.).
  • Teach and support radiation therapy students per educational requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
  • Normal clinical environment with minimal exposure to noise or extreme conditions.
  • Physical demands include lifting patients, moving wheelchairs/stretchers, and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to radiation, minimized through strict adherence to safety procedures.
  • Frequent interaction with critically ill, terminally ill, or emotionally distressed patients.
Required Education
  • Associate's degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
Required Certifications & Licensure
  • Current ARRT Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) certification or registry eligible.

Required Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Radiation Therapist.

Additional Details
  • Facility staffs four (4) therapists per machine.
  • Equipment:
    Varian linear accelerators; ARIA software.
  • QA duties are not required; therapists will treat patients throughout the full shift.
  • Facility is connected to the main hospital via a covered walking bridge.
  • Small inpatient population.
  • Team includes many new graduates; experienced travelers are strongly preferred to support and mentor staff.
  • Excellent opportunity for therapists who enjoy precepting and serving as a senior therapist on shift.
