Medical Assistant Float

Overview

Medical Assistant Float (16 to 40 hours/week). Premium Pay Rates apply to learn more. Henry Ford Health System’s internal staffing department provides coverage to ensure sufficient staffing throughout the health system, addressing unplanned or short-term staffing needs due to vacations, call-offs, leave of absences, census or acuity increases.

Medical Assistants will float to various Henry Ford clinics to provide coverage. Minimum commitment is 2 days per week with opportunities to work up to a full time schedule. Must be flexible on location and clinic. Hours are primarily Monday through Friday, 8 hour shifts. Occasional weekend opportunities (optional) with pay differential.

Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients. These duties include greeting and escorting patients to the exam room; taking medical histories, measuring and recording vital signs; preparing patients for examinations/procedures; and assisting the physician during examinations/procedures. Demonstrates clinical competence as a Medical Assistant.

Under direct supervision, perform administrative and clinical tasks to support patient care, including:

• Greet and escort patients to the exam room

• Prepare patients for examinations or procedures
• Assist the physician during examinations or procedures
• Demonstrate clinical competence as a Medical Assistant

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum) with a minimum of one year continuous work as Medical Assistant with verifiable clinical experience OR
• Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years OR
• Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting OR
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience OR
• Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years, with ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.

• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills
• Successful completion of HFMG pharmacology class and test

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES

REQUIRED:

• Current BLS (American Heart Association) certificate
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred
