Overview of Role
The Senior Medical Science Liaison is a field‑based scientific expert who strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of cancer therapeutic areas across the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of Summit Therapeutics’ science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals. They combine strong business acumen, clinical expertise, and market awareness, serving as a conduit of information to Summit’s cross‑functional teams.
Based on therapeutic needs and product life cycles, MSLs may focus on clinical development, pipeline support, and other related responsibilities.
- Develop, execute, and maintain high‑impact territory plans, including HCP and investigator engagement plans aligned with therapeutic area medical and scientific objectives.
- Support clinical development and research initiatives across the pipeline, including site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and execution of investigator‑sponsored trials.
- Identify, gain access to, and develop professional, customer‑centric relationships with external experts in Immuno‑Oncology within the assigned geography.
- Provide education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and Summit Therapeutics products throughout the product lifecycle to healthcare providers and researchers.
- Participate in and provide insights from relevant scientific meetings in the geography.
- Continuously update knowledge on market issues, product updates, and emerging therapeutic areas.
- Actively participate in team meetings, organizational activities, and country‑driven medical affairs activities (e.g., advisory boards, masterclasses, round tables).
- Create, maintain, and collaborate on relationships with cross‑functional partners to develop and execute account plans that support shared scientific or business objectives.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Doctoral degree in health sciences (MD, PhD, Pharm
D, or equivalent) is required. Significant clinical and/or industry experience in oncology may be considered in lieu of a doctoral degree. - Minimum of 5+ years of solid tumor cancer experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry‑related experience.
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in a Medical Science Liaison role.
- Prior pharmaceutical industry experience within a relevant scientific discipline is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated achievements in:
- Understanding, analyzing, and communicating complex scientific concepts.
- Building credible relationships with prominent healthcare professionals.
- Independently identifying and translating corporate needs into actionable plans.
- Self‑motivation, goal‑achievement, problem‑solving, analytic and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must meet healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements, including background checks, drug screens, and vaccination proof.
- Other requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, electronic document management systems, and document review tools.
- Strong computer and database skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Capacity to manage time‑sensitive and highly confidential documents while prioritizing competing demands.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced, demanding, and collaborative environment.
The pay range for this role is $200,000–$235,000 annually, plus potential bonus, stock, benefits, and other variable compensation.
