Position: Dietitian (Registered) - Fulltime - Days - Detroit

Role Summary

The Clinical Dietitian delivers evidence-based, patient-centered nutrition care across the continuum of health and disease. Utilizing advanced clinical reasoning and the Nutrition Care Process, the dietitian assesses nutrition risk, diagnoses nutrition problems, implements individualized interventions, and evaluates outcomes to optimize patient recovery and long-term health. This role serves as a clinical expert, educator, and collaborative partner within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Clinical

Dietitian – Advanced Practice

The Clinical Dietitian delivers evidence-based, patient-centered nutrition care across the continuum of health and disease. Utilizing advanced clinical reasoning and the Nutrition Care Process, the dietitian assesses nutrition risk, diagnoses nutrition problems, implements individualized interventions, and evaluates outcomes to optimize patient recovery and long-term health. This role serves as a clinical expert, educator, and collaborative partner within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive Nutrition Assessment & Diagnosis
    • Conduct thorough nutrition assessments by collecting, validating, and synthesizing data from the medical record, patient and family interviews, and the healthcare team.
    • Evaluate food- and nutrition-related history, anthropometric data, biochemical markers, medical tests and procedures, nutrition-focused physical findings, and relevant clinical history.
    • Identify, prioritize, and document nutrition diagnoses (Intake, Clinical, or Behavioral-Environmental) that are preventable, treatable, or improvable through nutrition intervention.
  • Individualized Nutrition Intervention & Therapy
    • Develop and implement patient-specific nutrition care plans based on clinical condition, goals of care, and evidence-based practice.
    • Deliver nutrition therapy through oral diets, supplements, enteral nutrition, parenteral nutrition, nutrition education, counseling, and coordination of care.
    • Assess food tolerance, texture modifications, and nutrient adequacy to ensure safe and effective intake.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Outcomes Management
    • Monitor and evaluate nutrition interventions using measurable outcomes, including intake adequacy, anthropometric trends, biochemical data, clinical indicators, and nutrition-focused physical findings.
    • Adjust care plans in response to changes in clinical status, tolerance, or progress toward established goals.
    • Support quality improvement initiatives through outcomes tracking and best-practice implementation.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Clinical Leadership
    • Serve as a nutrition consultant and trusted clinical partner to physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
    • Communicate nutrition recommendations clearly and proactively, including interpretation of nutrition-related labs, diagnostics, and clinical trends.
    • Stay current on advances in diet therapy and clinical nutrition, sharing knowledge to elevate interdisciplinary practice.
    • Investigate and address nutrition-related patient concerns, service issues, or unusual clinical occurrences as needed.
  • Patient, Family & Community Education
    • Provide individualized nutrition education to patients and caregivers during hospitalization and transition of care, supporting long-term health maintenance.
    • Develop and deliver in-service trainings, community education programs, and health promotion initiatives as assigned.
    • Create and maintain patient-centered educational materials tailored to diverse learning needs.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of nutrition assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes within the electronic medical record.
    • Adhere to organizational policies, regulatory standards, and professional codes of ethics.
  • Education, Mentorship & Professional Development
    • Precept, mentor, and supervise dietetic interns and students, providing clinical instruction, feedback, and professional guidance.
    • Participate in departmental initiatives, committees, and special projects related to patient care, quality, and education.

Maintain and advance professional competence through continuing education.
