DMC University Laboratories is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. The service area covers the entire Southeast Michigan market and includes core laboratories, specialty laboratories, central blood bank, and full‑service outreach infrastructure. Test menu exceeds 1,000 tests, less than 1% of tests are sent to external reference laboratories, and reference laboratory services are provided to many healthcare systems in southeastern Michigan and several out‑of‑state facilities.
Job SummaryUnder general supervision and following established procedures, the candidate receives and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens, performs standard histological procedures, and performs advanced techniques in immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. The candidate assists the pathologist with gross dissection, prepares chemical reagents, files and retrieves slides, and operates all laboratory equipment with quality control and preventive maintenance. Participation in training, development of new procedures, and research projects is required.
Additional duties include performing tasks related to medical photography and other related responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma plus two years of histotechnology training, or
- Associate of Science degree or equivalent college credits plus one year of histotechnology training, or
- Certificate from an accredited histotechnology school.
- Must be registered as HTL (Histotechnologist), HT (Histotechnician), or eligible through the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists).
Up to $10,000 sign‑on bonus, based on relevant experience.
