Registered Dietitian – Bariatric Surgery (24 hours/week)
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Registered Dietitian (RD) to join our dedicated team. The RD will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, individualized nutritional care to patients with obesity before and after bariatric surgery.
Responsibilities- Assess nutritional needs and identify nutrition‑related problems.
- Collect and interpret patient data including history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, and physical findings.
- Determine nutrition diagnosis and develop personalized care plans.
- Implement nutrition interventions such as meals, supplements, enteral or parenteral nutrition, education, and counseling.
- Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care as needed.
- Ensure appropriate food tolerances and consistencies.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team as a consultant and inform the team of advances in diet therapy, unusual lab results, and other pertinent facts.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on nutrition and special diets to be followed during and after hospitalization.
- Maintain documentation in the patient’s medical record, including Plan of Care, Nutrition Flow sheets, education records, after‑visit summaries, and handoffs.
- Develop and conduct in‑service classes, community education, and other health and nutrition offerings as requested or assigned.
- Participate in special projects and committees related to the nutritional care of patients.
- Maintain and enhance professional expertise through educational and organizational activities.
- Supervise dietetic interns/students, orient them to the profession, and provide clinical teaching, precepting, and mentoring throughout their program.
- Act as a liaison with the department of culinary wellness, both patient food service and retail food service, to address patient, employee, visitor, or staff needs.
- Demonstrate professional characteristics and ethics by adhering to department and organizational policy and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge and skills in the field of expertise.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or a related field that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (approved Baccalaureate program and accredited advanced training).
- Master’s degree or Advanced Practice Certification preferred.
- Professional knowledge of chemistry, physiology, caloric and nutrient values, and the physical properties of foodstuffs with an understanding of medical nutrition therapy.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; use and understand medical terminology; follow oral and written instructions; perform arithmetic calculations.
- Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- High level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
- Experience in bariatric and weight management.
- Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
