Position: Registered Dietitian- Bariatric Surgery- 24 hours/week

Registered Dietitian – Bariatric Surgery (24 hours/week)

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Registered Dietitian (RD) to join our dedicated team. The RD will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, individualized nutritional care to patients with obesity before and after bariatric surgery.

Responsibilities
  • Assess nutritional needs and identify nutrition‑related problems.
  • Collect and interpret patient data including history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, and physical findings.
  • Determine nutrition diagnosis and develop personalized care plans.
  • Implement nutrition interventions such as meals, supplements, enteral or parenteral nutrition, education, and counseling.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate food tolerances and consistencies.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team as a consultant and inform the team of advances in diet therapy, unusual lab results, and other pertinent facts.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff on nutrition and special diets to be followed during and after hospitalization.
  • Maintain documentation in the patient’s medical record, including Plan of Care, Nutrition Flow sheets, education records, after‑visit summaries, and handoffs.
  • Develop and conduct in‑service classes, community education, and other health and nutrition offerings as requested or assigned.
  • Participate in special projects and committees related to the nutritional care of patients.
  • Maintain and enhance professional expertise through educational and organizational activities.
  • Supervise dietetic interns/students, orient them to the profession, and provide clinical teaching, precepting, and mentoring throughout their program.
  • Act as a liaison with the department of culinary wellness, both patient food service and retail food service, to address patient, employee, visitor, or staff needs.
  • Demonstrate professional characteristics and ethics by adhering to department and organizational policy and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge and skills in the field of expertise.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or a related field that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (approved Baccalaureate program and accredited advanced training).
  • Master’s degree or Advanced Practice Certification preferred.
  • Professional knowledge of chemistry, physiology, caloric and nutrient values, and the physical properties of foodstuffs with an understanding of medical nutrition therapy.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; use and understand medical terminology; follow oral and written instructions; perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
  • Experience in bariatric and weight management.
Certification & Licensure
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
