Under general supervision, prepares and stains specimens from any body site and microscopically examines their cellular structures to detect cancer and other abnormalities. Responsible for issuing diagnostic reports on normal (negative) gynecological specimens. Assists clinician at the aspiration biopsy site by preparing smears, proper collection and processing of the specimen.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- A Bachelor’s degree with successful completion in a CAAHEP accredited program in cytotechnology or fulfill CLIA
88 requirements for cytotechnologist as stated in Federal Register 493.1483, if prior to 1992. Ability to sit for long periods of time at a microscope. - Licenses and Certifications
Required:- ASCP eligibility or certification in cytotechnology.
