$33.91/hr - $33.91/hr

Education & Certification
  • Bachelor of Science Degree from a regionally accredited college/university is required.
  • Minimum experience:

    5 years.
  • Completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologist’s Assistant program or previous certification by the American Association of Pathologist’s Assistants (AAPA).
  • Certification as a PA (ASCP).
Job Summary

The Pathologist's Assistant provides services in anatomic pathology as a member of a team under the direction and supervision of a qualified pathologist. Assists in the preparation and performance of human post‑mortem examinations.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen examinations, including gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens; selection and submission of tissue sections for microscopic examination (e.g., frozen and permanent sections for light, electron, and fluorescent microscopy).
  • Accessioning of specimens and ensuring proper identification in accordance with surgical pathology policies. Prepares containers and tissue cassettes.
  • Aids in resident training and credentialing, offering technical instruction to residents in accordance with practice guidelines and the surgical pathology dissection manual. Assesses residents’ competency in handling specimens.
  • Performs gross photography of specimens as needed. Maintains files completed by the assigned PA.
  • Responsible for tumor procurement for biorepository. Manages documentation, quality assurance indicators, and business transactions.
  • Assists in quality assurance and quality control planning of the department. Primary responsibilities in specimen identification, frozen sections, and maintenance of instruments and refrigerators.
  • Inventory management of the frozen section room and surgical pathology lab (E & R‑6) supplies. Submits orders and stock supplies.
  • Selects gross tissue and extremities for disposal after reports are finalized.
  • Performs autopsies, including external examination, in‑situ organ inspection, evisceration, dissection, submission of tissue sections, and dictation or recording of all data from gross analytical and microscopic examinations.
  • Assists in related duties as directed or as time permits.
