Under general supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Athletic Trainer Certified I - Ortho collaborates with the Physical Therapist to develop and administer treatment plans for physical therapy patients. Responsibilities include preventing, assessing, treating, and reconditioning sports and orthopaedic injuries in line with NATA Certification (BOC) guidelines, performing treatments as prescribed by physicians, handling pre‑season physicals and sports events, and providing educational exercise programs to schools and community centers.

• Develop and implement individualized exercise programs and therapeutic pool regimens.
• Assess patient progress and document outcomes in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Carry out prescribed treatments and recommendations from the physical therapist or physician.
• Prepare and maintain hydrotherapy and physical therapy equipment, performing minor repairs as needed.
• Coordinate with the physical therapy team to schedule patients and manage treatment workflows.
• Instruct patients and staff on safe exercise practices and progression guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records of patient progress and treatment billing procedures.

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited Athletic Trainer Certified Program and current NATA Board of Certification (BOC) certification.
• License to practice as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Michigan (effective 1/1/11).
• One year of clinical experience preferred; entry‑level graduates with BOC certification considered.

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest rehabilitation hospitals, offering expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopaedics, and catastrophic injury care. The facility includes the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeast Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems for brain injury care and research.

RIM also operates 31 outpatient sports medicine and orthopaedic sites throughout Southeast Michigan.
