Emergency Dispatcher 7-E8 – Intelligence Operations / Detroit Regional Communication Center

Apply for this Emergency Dispatcher position with the State of Michigan Police. The dispatcher works closely with police officers, providing critical information and coordination during emergency incidents.

Responsibilities

The dispatcher is essential to the law‑enforcement team, acting in partnership with field officers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preliminary investigations and interpretation of complex computer print‑outs.
  • Coordinating the deployment of emergency personnel and equipment during crisis situations and routine assignments.
  • Utilizing interrogation techniques, CPR, and basic first aid.
  • Performing all functions in a bias‑free manner.
Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience:

  • High‑school completion.
  • Emergency Dispatcher 7:
    No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • Emergency Dispatcher 8:
    One year of experience equivalent to an Emergency Dispatcher 7.

Special Requirements:

  • CPR certification may be required.
  • Applicants must pass the agency‑administered examination testing computer and dispatching skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Pre‑employment screening, including a criminal history background check and a fingerprint check.

Applicants will be screened based on the following criteria:

  • Scoring on pre‑employment basic aptitude test (if required).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency dispatch center operations.
  • Knowledge of communication and computerized equipment for operating an emergency communications system, including the MPSCS 800 MHz system.
  • Effectiveness in communicating with law‑enforcement personnel and external agencies.
  • Experience in public safety and emergency service operations.
  • Writing ability demonstrated through resume and documentation.
  • Relevant education and training for the position.
