A great UHY client is seeking a Fractional Controller to join their team for a temporary engagement. The ideal candidate will have strong GAAP experience, experience with utilizing multiple integrated platforms, and strong executive presence.
The Fractional Controller role is a part-time position, averaging about 20 hours per week with a start-up organization. This role will be mostly remote, but some in person meetings will be required. This is a contract position.
Fractional Controller Job Requirements:
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure timely and accurate closing of the general ledger and all sub-ledgers.
- Coordinate external audits and act as the primary point of contact for auditors.
- Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements and act as the liaison for tax filings.
- Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
- Oversee the monthly financial close, cost allocations, tax filings, etc.
- Manage and improve internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor and reconcile all bank accounts, credit facilities, and company assets.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions.
- Assist the CFO and executive leadership in the development of annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
- Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to department heads and leadership.
- Develop, document, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Evaluate and mitigate financial risks across the organization.
- Lead system upgrades and ensure adequate controls are in place during implementation.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; foster professional development and continuous learning.
- Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and ensure team alignment with strategic objectives.
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration within the finance department.
Fractional Controller Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA certification or advanced accounting degree highly preferred.
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Experience with utilizing multiple integrated platforms required.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems e.g., SAGE, Net Suite, SAP, Quick Books Enterprise. Sage Intacct preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling, VLOOKUPs).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
