Financial Coach (Bilingual-Spanish/English)
This position provides low to moderate income eligible families in the SER Center for Working Families with financial advice and coaching that contributes to the families’ financial stability and asset-building capabilities.
Base pay range$19.00/hr – $21.00/hr
Job SummaryThe Bilingual Financial Coach will provide financial advice and coaching to eligible families, helping them build financial stability and achieve financial goals through education, counseling, and partnership with community resources.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Facilitates financial education workshops on money management, credit, banking, mortgages, and home buying.
- Conducts intake and individual counseling on credit, debt management, savings, budgeting, home ownership assistance, foreclosure intervention, and related topics.
- Assists participants in developing personal financial plans to meet their goals.
- Exposes participants to financial products and services such as check cashing alternatives and affordable housing products.
- Assists participants in devising debt liquidation plans with payoff priorities and timelines.
- Provides information on Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) and assists with the application process.
- Maintains follow-up contact with participants on matters discussed in counseling sessions.
- Refers participants to community or financial agencies to obtain services outlined in financial plans.
- Creates and maintains partnerships with financial institutions, real estate agencies, lending institutions, financial industry professionals, and community-based organizations.
- Maintains program database and performs program reporting.
- Represents the organization in community forums and conducts program presentations.
- Performs other duties that contribute to the program’s team effort.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field.
- Two to four years of related experience in personal financial education, homebuyer education, and/or foreclosure intervention counseling preferred.
- Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish required.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Mental ability to handle pressures related to dealing with multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds and frequently stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time while operating office equipment such as a computer and telephone.
Work EnvironmentNormal office environment with moderate noise and exposure to dust and dirt. Uses standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machine.
