Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Detroit, Michigan Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead and manage engineering operations across Michigan. This role involves technical leadership, project management, client coordination, and oversight of geotechnical investigations and design activities. The firm provides extensive geotechnical services—including subsurface investigations, laboratory testing, ground modification techniques, retaining structure design, and foundation analysis—supported by a proven track record of performance on diverse and complex projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all geotechnical engineering work for Michigan-based projects, ensuring high technical quality and timely delivery.
- Oversee and direct subsurface investigations, site reconnaissance, sampling, and laboratory testing programs to support project design and analysis.
- Provide advanced engineering recommendations for:
- Foundation systems (spread footings, drilled shafts, piles, mat foundations)
- Earth retaining structures (sheet pile, gravity walls, cantilever walls, soil nailing, etc.)
- Ground improvement techniques (DMM, dynamic compaction, lime/cement stabilization, stone columns)
- Manage a broad portfolio of projects across Michigan, including municipal infrastructure, civil works, environmental and geotechnical evaluation, and large-scale construction initiatives.
- Coordinate with owners, architects, and design teams to develop cost-effective and practical engineering solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers, field personnel, and technical staff to support professional growth and ensure quality execution.
- Engage with clients to maintain long‑term relationships built on integrity, reliability, and performance‑core principles emphasized by the organization.
- Support proposal preparation, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning for Michigan operations.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain Michigan licensure if not already held.
- Demonstrated experience with a wide range of geotechnical project types
, field investigations, and design methodologies. - Strong communication skills and an ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with geotechnical laboratory procedures, construction QA/QC, and field testing programs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced setting.
