We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Engineering Manager to lead a closed die forging engineering department. In this critical role, you will oversee a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, managing projects, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize forging processes and tooling design. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of impression die hot forging, expertise in simulation software like DEFORM, and a proven track record of leadership and problem-solving.
POSITION IS LOCATED IN DETROIT, MI - $25K RELOCATION PACKAGE AVAILABLE
Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Delegate tasks effectively, manage work schedules, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members on forging processes, tooling design, and problem resolution.
- Process Optimization: Analyze production activities, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Evaluate and optimize existing forging processes and tooling designs to reduce costs and improve product quality.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, applying lean manufacturing principles and best practices.
- Tooling Design & Simulation: Oversee the design, development, and implementation of new forging and support tooling.
- Utilize DEFORM and other simulation software to analyze material flow, predict potential issues, and optimize tooling performance.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement corrective actions to ensure production efficiency and product quality.
- Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, purchasing, and sales.
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to manage service contracts and ensure timely procurement of materials and equipment.
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to communicate project updates, analysis findings, and improvement recommendations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, or Manufacturing preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in a similar engineering management role within a closed die forging environment.
- Technical
Skills:
Extensive knowledge of impression die hot forging processes, materials, and tooling. - Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD) and DEFORM simulation software.
- Experience with toolpath generation, flow simulation, and surfacing software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

- $170,000 to $200,000 base salary
