The Control Systems Engineer is a key technical member of the engineering team, providing leadership and support for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of process control systems. This role is responsible for enhancing automation capabilities to improve operational performance, reliability, and efficiency.
The engineer supports a range of automation technologies, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), data historians, and interfaces with enterprise IT systems. The position also provides hands-on process control assistance across operational areas to ensure system stability, safety, and optimization.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide automation and process control technical support for DCS platforms, PLC systems, data historians, and control networks.
- Partner with leadership, engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to understand operational needs and deliver effective control solutions.
- Support capital projects by designing and implementing process control strategies and system architectures.
- Participate in project and process teams to achieve technical objectives involving automation and control technologies.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual intervention, minimize errors, and improve efficiency through automation enhancements.
- Support safety-related control system requirements, including the development and documentation of Safety Instrumented Systems and interlock specifications.
- Maintain and update process control documentation, including system configurations, standards, and procedures.
- Provide training and technical guidance to engineering and operational personnel.
- Participate in key safety and risk management processes.
Education and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in industrial controls and automation (10+ years preferred in lieu of degree).
- Demonstrated expertise in configuring, documenting, and troubleshooting digital control systems, including DCS and PLC platforms.
- Experience with distributed control systems, PLC programming, and industrial data historian platforms preferred.
- Experience supporting safety-regulated environments is preferred.
