Spalding DeDecker is seeking a Project Engineer/Senior Design Engineer to join our Detroit Office. In this position, the Project Engineer/Senior Design Engineer leads the technical design for an interdisciplinary team of civil engineers, project planners, and CAD designers. This position reports directly to the Project Manager and/or Detroit Market Lead.
Candidates should be designers with a high technical competency, experienced in mixed-use urban infill, sustainable design, and stormwater best management practices. The ideal candidate is passionate about the advancement of the City of Detroit, experienced with the unique requirements of design and permitting within an urban context, and demonstrates strong leadership and communication skills.
Requirements- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience (Required)
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Required)
- Michigan P.E. License (Required)
Experience with in the City of Detroit or a similar urban context is preferred but not required - Local knowledge of the City of Detroit is a bonus
- Proficiency with civil engineering tools such as Civil 3D, SWMM, and Excel
- Involved in the preparation of project drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Prepares engineering analysis, design, calculations, and reports, site visits, permit application, construction assistance, including RFIs and change orders, and evaluates land use and zoning requirements.
- Responsible for signing and sealing engineering plans that they directly worked on and supervised.
- Works with dynamic design team,s including the City of Detroit, Detroit utilities, owners/developers, architects, landscape architects, engineering trades, and contractors.
- Assists in the preparation of fee estimates for potential projects.
- Provides mentorship and training for junior staff

- Work in an office environment
- Attend client meetings and travel by car and/or plane if the project requires it
- Perform project site visits

Other DetailsJob Type: Full-time, hybrid with three days per week required in the office after completion of probation period.
