Dimensional Controls Engineer

Job Description

Position Summary:

Alfa ITG is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Dimensional Controls Engineer to join our team. The Dimensional Control Engineer ensures manufactured parts, manufacturing processes, assemblies and final products meet design specifications through data analysis and a variety of tasks, including developing dimensional control strategies, conducting measurements, quality checks and advanced measurement tools. Responsibilities involve using tools like laser trackers and CMMs, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams, and identifying and solving dimensional issues to improve product quality and process efficiency.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in manufacturing processes, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a proven ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do / Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

· Conduct measurements and inspections:
Use advanced measurement systems such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), laser trackers, 3D scanners, and total stations to collect data from components and assemblies.

· Analyze data and solve problems:
Identify dimensional trends and deviations through data analysis (including 1D, 2D, and 3D variation analysis), determine the root cause, and drive problem-solving activities with cross-functional teams.

· Troubleshoot and problem-solve:
Lead cross-functional teams to find the root cause of dimensional issues and develop balanced, enterprise-wide solutions.

· Ensure compliance with standards:
Verify that all designs and processes adhere to industry standards like Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5, as well as quality management systems (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 9001).

· Develop dimensional control plans, conduct capability studies, and validate tooling and fixtures to ensure a smooth launch of new models.

· Collaborate with stakeholders, teams and suppliers:
Work closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to resolve discrepancies, optimize processes, and ensure seamless integration of components.

· Manage documentation and reports:
Maintain detailed and traceable records of inspections, survey data, and control activities, and prepare survey drawings and reports using software like AutoCAD and Excel.

· Drive continuous improvement:
Lead projects focused on improving process capability, reducing variation, and enhancing overall product quality using methodologies like Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing.

· Travel Required to Customer location within the Continental United States.

What We're Looking For (Must haves), Required Skills & Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or a related engineering field is preferred.

Experience:

Several years of relevant experience in dimensional engineering, metrology, or quality within a manufacturing environment (common industries include automotive, aerospace, construction and mining).

· Technical Expertise:

o Proficiency in metrology tools (CMM, laser scanners, etc.).

o Expert knowledge of GD&T principles and application.

o

Experience with statistical analysis and software (e.g., SPC, 3

DCS, VisVSA).

o Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, AutoCAD).

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
