In accordance with the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position SummaryThe Teacher Consultant for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) will conduct classroom visits, track compliance data, attend transition conferences, and perform academic evaluations as needed. The role includes providing information for Eligibility Recommendation/Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team meetings and IEP planning. Candidates must be knowledgeable about programs and services offered by Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree in Education or related field in special education
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a ZS endorsement, or a ZA endorsement plus at least one special education endorsement
- MDE approval as a teacher consultant, or credentials to obtain such approval
- At least five (5) years of successful certified teaching experience, including three (3) years in a special education early childhood setting
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficiency with basic computer skills and web-based systems
- Model and support the mission, vision, core values, and priorities of DPSCD
- Build positive relationships with stakeholders including staff, students, parents, and community agencies
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating student-specific plans such as IEPs, transition plans, and behavioral assessments
- Provide professional development, consultation, and coaching to instructional staff
- Analyze student performance data and recommend action steps
- Participate in professional learning communities and share resources
- Support evaluation teams during assessments and reevaluations
- Attend district, school, and parent meetings as needed
- Assist teachers with curriculum, assessments, and data collection
- Participate in meetings to support student placement and progress in least restrictive environments
- Consult with teachers, specialists, administrators, and families
- Conduct student achievement assessments and interpret results for eligibility and services
- Maintain confidentiality per FERPA and HIPAA
- Share resources to support FAPE in least restrictive environments
- Support instructional personnel and make student referrals as appropriate
- Engage with parents to increase participation
- Complete all required reports and documentation timely
- Transport materials and equipment as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
