Position PurposeWe are searching for an experienced Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) at our Detroit campus. The Division is a premier research-intensive environment, and successful candidates are expected to maintain a track record of excellence in extramural research funding, scholarly productivity, teaching, and academic service commensurate with their faculty rank. This position is a joint appointment between IEHS/CURES and a department within a school/college, based on fit for the candidate.
Tenure track rights will be held in the department. This appointment could be 12-month or 9-month depending on the tenure or tenure track home.
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences/Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (IEHS/CURES) is a premier research-intensive institute at Wayne State University. Candidates are expected to possess a strong record of excellence in research, teaching, and service as appropriate for their rank.
Essential FunctionsFaculty recruits are expected to engage with the NIEHS-funded CURES environmental health sciences core center (P30 ES036084) and the Center for Leadership in Environmental Awareness and Research (CLEAR) Superfund Research Center (P42ES
030991). Successful recruits will integrate with academic departments, colleges/schools, and centers/institutes, and participate in all aspects of our academic mission including research, education, and service.
Maintain an independent, externally funded scholarship program resulting in dissemination of knowledge through publication and other scholarly means.
Participate in developing programmatic initiatives in targeted thematic areas as part of the Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio) initiative as requested.
Contribute to programmatic initiatives to develop further synergy between IEHS/CURES and related centers, the Wayne State University One Health Initiative, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as requested.
Establish strong trans-disciplinary research collaborations advancing knowledge in environmental health sciences. Engage in professional service activities including study sections for grant review and leadership in professional societies. Provide mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students, professional students, fellows, and other personnel as appropriate. Deliver high-quality teaching in courses serving undergraduates, professional and graduate programs in environmental health sciences and in the designated tenure home department.
Serve on departmental, college, school, and university committees as designated by the chair, contribute to local, state, and national professional or scientific organizations, and participate in recruiting and interviewing prospective students.
Candidates must have Ph.D., M.D., and/or related degree(s) in disciplines aligning with environmental sciences research and possess a demonstrated track record of and/or potential for exceptional science, creative discovery and/or knowledge translation and application. Faculty are expected to either already have established extramural research funding and/or are on a clear path to secure and sustain extramural funding in support of their research programs.
