• Conduct state licensing inspections
• Investigate complaints
• Provide provider technical assistance and consultation to applicants/licensees
• Initiate enforcement action
• Testify in hearings
• Consult with other professionals such as law enforcement, fire safety inspectors, and protective services representatives

• Possession of a master’s degree in child development, elementary education, early childhood education, guidance and counseling, or social work
• Two years of post‑bachelor’s professional experience licensing child day care homes or centers, child foster care homes or facilities, child care placing agencies, or related child care facilities
• Experience as a child day‑care provider trainer, investigator of high‑risk child abuse or neglect cases, or a professional child day‑care or preschool education worker or teacher in a pre‑kindergarten or kindergarten to third grade program
• Specific information on the education and experience required for the position is in the job specifications for the Child Day Care Consultant class
