Energy Educator – Seasonal Contract Role (Job closes on Sunday, January 18, 2026)

The National Energy Foundation (NEF) is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to cultivating energy literacy among K - 12 students, teachers, and families. NEF achieves its mission by developing and implementing STEM-based energy education programs that focus on energy efficiency and safety, electric transportation, energy workforce development and other current energy topics. NEF helps prepare students to make informed energy decisions, contribute to a more sustainable future, and explore energy-related careers.

About the Role:
Energy Educator

As an Energy Educator, you will bring NEF’s energy education programs to life by leading engaging classroom presentations that introduce students to topics such as energy efficiency, renewable resources, electric transportation, and careers in the energy sector. You’ll serve as an energetic and knowledgeable facilitator, helping learners of all ages (we work with K through grey!) connect classroom lessons to real-world energy issues.

This is a part-time, seasonal role based on individual program needs. Educator contracts are offered once per year. This is an hourly, non-exempt position that includes local and regional travel.

Locations & Start Dates

All new Energy Educators will begin with in person training on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 (required). In-person work will begin shortly after, depending on location. All dates are subject to change.

  • Michigan (Metro Detroit Area):
    • In-person start date – February 3, 2026
    • Virtual training date - February 9, 2026

Training Provided by NEF

  • In person required training starting Tuesday, February 3, 2026
  • Learn and demonstrate a strong understanding of energy basics: sources, production, safety, and efficiency
  • Familiarize yourself with NEF’s content delivery tools and presentation style
Key Responsibilities

Presentation Responsibilities

  • Deliver multiple classroom presentations per day, often by yourself
  • Conduct in-person and/or virtual classroom presentations with enthusiasm and professionalism
  • Engage students through interactive and age-appropriate methods
  • Communicate effectively with clear diction, vocal projection, and energy
  • Operate independently or as part of a two-person team
  • Set up and use presentation technology, including Apple Keynote, PowerPoint, and various technologies that support STEM learning
  • Represent NEF and its sponsors in a positive, professional, and respectful manner
  • Follow all NEF, school district, and sponsor health/safety protocols and standards of professionalism
  • Adhere to NEF and sponsor organizations’ contagious illness policies
Qualifications & Requirements

Education/

Experience:

  • Previous classroom teaching experience or working with children is preferred
  • STEM background or interest in energy/environmental topics is a plus

Technology & Communication:

  • Comfortable using Apple iPads, Keynote, and other presentation technologies (training provided)
  • Able to manage and troubleshoot presentation tools independently

Transportation & Travel:

  • Reliable transportation to travel to schools
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
  • Ability to travel by car or air, and stay overnight as needed
  • Must be able to use a personal credit card for reimbursable travel expenses. Expenses are submitted for reimbursement weekly to once a month.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods during presentations

Other Requirements:

  • Must adhere to NEF dress code and sign the code of conduct annually
  • Willing to follow school security and safety procedures
  • Subject to background checks and potential drug testing
  • Must represent sponsor goals with professionalism and courtesy
