Position Summary

Sherwood Elementary (K-2) is seeking a motivated individual for an IMMEDIATE Instructional Assistant vacancy to support the classroom teacher by reinforcing instruction with students in an small group educational setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students and a passion for helping them reach their full potential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist small groups and individual students in reinforcing skills in core curriculum areas initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Organize instruction and learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes
  • Employ strategies congruent with planned student outcomes
  • Monitor student learning and pace/adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain appropriate records of student performance
  • May administer diagnostic tests
  • Meet and plan with classroom teachers and other staff
  • Daily in-person attendance required.
  • Participate in professional development programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 60 or more semester hours of college credit. In lieu of 60 semester hours one can have an associate's degree or higher;
    Teacher certification highly desirable, andMeet No Child Left Behind criteria for support personnel, which includes graduation from an accredited high school or the equivalent,
  • Demonstrates a command of oral and written English language.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with employees, students and the general public.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage instructional tasks efficiently.
  • Capable of handling confidential information.
  • Has a good work ethic and attendance record
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge.
  • Demonstrates problem solving and good communication skills: speaking, listening, and writing.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teacher.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to use sound judgment, tact and courtesy in a variety of situations
  • This position requires mobility while interacting with students to include but not limited to standing, sitting, bending and kneeling.

Salary and Benefits:

Pay as provided inthe

Secretarial Collective Bargaining Agreement STSSA
Current hourly rates range from $12.9458 to $17.8612
An additional $0.80/hour for completion of 60 or more semester credit hours(college). Official transcripts required.

This position is part ofthe State of Michigan School Employee Retirement System
