About My Green Michigan

My Green Michigan is the state’s largest food waste recycler, turning scraps into compost and making sustainable efforts more accessible for communities. We haul food waste from businesses, municipalities, campuses, hospitals, and residences.

We partner with regional composting facilities to turn organic material into STA-certified compost, supporting healthier soils, stronger local economies, and a more resilient Michigan. Our services help organizations reduce landfill waste, improve sustainability performance, and participate in a simple, circular system that keeps valuable nutrients in the community.

Position Summary

We’re seeking a motivated, independent Sales & Business Development Representative to expand My Green Michigan’s customer base on the western side of the state. You’ll identify and onboard new commercial accounts—restaurants, universities, grocery stores, manufacturers, and institutions—who want to reduce waste, save money, and support Michigan’s land and water.

This role focuses on building relationships, closing new accounts, and supporting smooth onboarding, working closely with the Operations and Customer Success teams to ensure seamless service delivery.

Core Responsibilities

  • Identify, pursue, and close new commercial and institutional accounts across West Michigan.
  • Schedule and lead prospect meetings, site visits, and presentations (in-person and virtual).
  • Develop proposals and pricing estimates in coordination with leadership.
  • Support new customers through onboarding to ensure accurate setup and smooth service startup.
  • Maintain and grow existing accounts, identifying expansion and referral opportunities.
  • Ensure all prospective clients complete required contracts, service agreements, and intake forms accurately and on time, guiding them through the process as needed.
  • Track pipeline activity, customer data, and contract details in CRM and Quick Books.
  • Coordinate with operations to align routes, deliveries, and service frequencies.
  • Build and maintain working knowledge of compostable materials, packaging, and products—and help customers select the right items to reduce contamination and improve program success.
  • Represent MGM at conferences, trade shows, and community events in the region.
  • Stay informed on local waste-diversion initiatives, sustainability incentives, and composting regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • 2+ years in sales, business development, or B2B account management.
  • Proven ability to prospect, negotiate, and close deals independently.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong follow‑through.
  • Comfort with CRM tools, spreadsheets, and digital recordkeeping.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (regional travel required).
  • Preference for candidates based in West, Mid, or Central Michigan. Must be willing to travel regularly throughout these regions; mileage reimbursement provided.

Preferred:

  • Experience in waste management, recycling, facilities services, or sustainability.
  • Familiarity with Quick Books, Stop Suite, or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of composting, food waste recycling, or circular economy practices.
  • $40,000 base salary + commission and performance bonuses.
  • Health and dental insurance.
  • Retirement plan w/ company match.
  • Paid vacation and holidays.
  • Mileage reimbursement and covered travel expenses.
