Event Support Technician

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Event Support Technician at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties)

Position

Purpose:

The Event Support Technician will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various event support equipment for a wide range of events. This position will collaborate closely with event planners, venue operators, and other technicians to provide outstanding support for small- or large-scale campus events. This position will report to the Associate Director, Operations, Student Center, and Campus Reservations.

Essential Functions

  • Review event production plan to ensure successful execution. Act as liaison with stakeholders. Effectively communicate and manage expectations with clients for events; identify and resolve issues and conflicts, as necessary.
  • Set-up, operate and control a variety of event support equipment including but not limited to audio visual equipment, and other specialized event equipment utilized for reservations in large lecture auditoriums, class and conference rooms, and other event spaces.
  • May provide functional work direction of assigned tasks to a small number (1-3) of student support personnel. Assign and monitor routine tasks. Train in appropriate methods and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment inventory. Maintain on-line or hard copy record of equipment usage and assist with new equipment acquisition.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

  • High school completion (or GED). High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical certification in Audio/Visual technology preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an event support or similar role.
  • Strong technical background and a passion for delivering high-quality hospitality experiences.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficient with standard office software such as Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective guidelines. Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations.
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy equipment, as necessary.
