Overview

The Detroit Parks Coalition (DPC) is a diverse group of park leaders and community members working to support healthy, equitable, and vibrant parks in Detroit. Our coalition serves as a hub for city officials and community representatives to work together, finding innovative and efficient ways to make progress in Detroit’s parks and green spaces. We develop and facilitate citywide parks programming, raise money for park improvements, and support community organizations that care for Detroit’s parks.

DPC currently employs a staff of 5 FTEs, with an annual operating budget of $2.3 million.

Program & Administrative Assistant to advance the mission of the Detroit Parks Coalition. This role supports daily office operations, assists with program coordination, and helps ensure effective implementation, communication, and partner engagement across Coalition initiatives. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about parks, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. This is a full-time position, reporting to DPC’s Deputy Director.

Key responsibilities include:

Program Support
  • Assist with coordination and implementation of Coalition programs and initiatives, such as the Pistons Neighbors Program, Yoga in the Parks, and citywide tournaments.
  • Manage administrative relationships with DPC vendors and grant partners, including producing contracts and grant agreement letters, collecting invoices and W9s, and ensuring smooth payment processing.
  • Support scheduling, logistics, and preparation for convenings, park tours, and community events.
  • Support DPC’s events calendar, in partnership with City of Detroit and park stewards citywide.
  • In partnership with deputy director and grants manager, work to develop and maintain program records and other reports in CRM system
  • Help staff DPC’s park steward supply library, providing resources to neighborhood organizations citywide
Administrative Support
  • Send out meeting agendas, take minutes, and track follow up items for DPC board, coalition, and programming committee.
  • Assist grants manager with administrative tasks related to fundraising and grant management, including generating reports, processing gifts, and maintaining donor records as directed.
  • Develop yearly meeting calendar and maintain Coalition meeting & convening schedule
  • Assist with purchasing, reimbursements, and basic expense tracking
Communications & Coordination
  • Serve as a point of contact for general inquiries
  • Help prepare presentations, reports, and grant-related materials as needed
Qualifications

Applicants must have previous experience working in a nonprofit, coalition, or community-based organization, with programmatic experience preferred. We are seeking someone organized and attentive to detail, but flexible and able to work in a diverse array of environments—including in both digital and analog. Core competencies include: strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, professionalism, adaptability, and problem solving. Our ideal candidate is proactive, self-directed, and loves Detroit and its parks.

Structure

& Compensation

This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position. Work environment is remote, with onsite presence required in Detroit’s parks on an as-needed and available basis. May require attendance at occasional evening or weekend park events, especially during the spring and summer months. Annual compensation is $50,000. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are provided, as well as 401k with up to 5% company match and unlimited PTO.
