Taft is currently seeking a Legal Assistant to join our Finance team. We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Finance team. Legal Assistants serve clients by providing administrative support to attorneys. All Taft employees operate under a "Client First" philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.
Essential Duties:- Provides skilled, proactive administrative support to assigned attorneys in the Finance Practice Group.
- Edits and proofreads complex documents, including proactive review for and ability to relay relevant discrepancies/inconsistencies.
- Reviews, inventories, and saves signature pages.
- Compiles documents for closing using transaction checklist.
- Works with attorneys/paralegals to obtain documents for completion of closing books, and assembles closing books for attorney review.
- Clearly and professionally communicates with attorneys and other members of the legal team on projects, needs, transaction status, etc.
- Works with members of the legal team and accounting to gather costs and time in preparation for closing.
- Independently performs administrative duties such as proofreading, editing and releasing attorney time entries; registering, calendaring and reporting Continuing Legal Education credits; requesting and following up on reimbursements and other related tasks.
- Prepares and reviews letters and memoranda according to Firm standards.
- Exhibits outstanding client service orientation in all verbal and written communication.
- Displays strong attention to detail and numeric aptitude.
- Anticipates necessary tasks/projects and proactively performs them.
- Responds to requests with a sense of urgency and effectively prioritizes work.
- Demonstrates flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proactively monitors and communicates deadlines to the legal team as appropriate.
- Creates, maintains, and retires files in accordance with Taft's Information Governance Policy.
- Assists in managing client contacts, emails, print documents and incoming and outgoing mail.
- May enter time into billing management software.
- 2+ years Legal Assistant experience strongly preferred.
- Must demonstrate proficient command of the English language and standard grammar rules.
- Demonstrates strong working knowledge of, and experience in, using Microsoft Office programs; must have a desire to maintain excellent technical skills and to learn new software by taking advantage of internal training programs.
