Job DescriptionThe Assurance Experienced Associate will be responsible for preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying basic areas of GAAP as necessary, and documenting, validating, testing, and assessing various control systems. This position may also be involved in reviews and agreed-upon procedures engagements.
Job Duties- Control Environment:
Applies knowledge to establish or enhance effectiveness and mitigate risks of policies and procedures; identifies applicable policies, laws, rules, and regulations; makes constructive suggestions to improve internal controls and accounting procedures; documents and validates operating effectiveness of client internal control systems. - GAAP:
Applies governing principles to client transactions; drafts basic sets of financial statements with disclosures; researches accounting topics and forms an initial opinion on the correct treatment independently. - Professional Standards (GAAS/BDO policy):
Develops audit knowledge, applies auditing theory, documents deviations, notifies more senior team members, and assists in obtaining approvals; identifies opportunities to adjust testing scope and communicates findings. - Methodology:
Documents work papers and ensures work is performed in accordance with BDO methodology and requirements. - Research:
Researches information from authoritative sources and draws conclusions regarding a target issue based on the information.
Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, required, OR Bachelor’s degree in another focus area and CPA certification, required
- Master’s in Accountancy, preferred
- One (1) or more years of prior relevant audit experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required
- Eligible to sit for the CPA exams upon starting employment; actively pursuing completion of the exams, required; CPA, preferred
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite; experience with assurance applications and research tools, preferred
- Basic understanding of internal accounting controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt messaging to communicate with professionals at all levels within the client organization and the firm
- Ability to travel as needed
