Unit Secretary - Medical Surgical Telemetry

Overview

Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit Secretary – direct accountability to the Director/Manager and indirect responsibility to the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor. Provides communication support, transcribes physician orders, maintains records, orders supplies, completes patient charts, and assists nursing staff with indirect patient care.

• Department: Medical Surgical Telemetry
• Schedule: Full Time, 3 pm – 11:30 pm with alternating weekends
• Hospital: Holy Family Medical Center – LTACH
• Location: Des Plaines, IL 60016

• Accountable to the Director/Manager and indirectly to the Charge Nurse/House Supervisor.
• Perform indirect care in the department setting.
• Facilitate the communication needs of the department.
• Transcribe physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE & EMR) with notation and signature by nursing staff.
• Prepare and maintain records on the Emergency Room.
• Order supplies for the unit and prepare each patient’s chart for necessary daily forms.
• Assist nursing staff with duties involving indirect patient care.

• High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience.
• BLS certification (ARC or AHA) within 30 days and maintained throughout employment.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
• Previous experience in an acute care setting or physician’s practice preferred.
