GTI Energy is seeking a Research & Engineering Intern to support the execution of applied research and development projects focused on advancing low‑carbon, energy‑efficient, and innovative energy technologies. The intern will work closely with engineers, scientists, and technical staff in a collaborative R&D environment, contributing to laboratory testing, engineering analysis, data collection, and technical documentation that support GTI Energy's mission to address global energy challenges.

Work Location

The position will be based at GTI Energy Headquarters in the Chicagoland area. We offer a hybrid/core work schedule in which employees work remotely on Mondays and Fridays and are on-site Tuesday through Thursday. Interns may be required to be on-site up to five days per week depending on lab work and project requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

* Assist with engineering design, analysis, and applied research tasks across assigned projects

* Support laboratory and pilot‑scale testing, including test setup, execution, troubleshooting, and teardown

* Collect, analyze, and document experimental, field, or modeling data

* Assist in prototype builds, equipment testing, and system evaluations

* Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and project documentation for internal and external stakeholders

* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in a team‑based R&D environment

* Follow established safety procedures, testing protocols, and quality standards

* Perform other duties as assigned to support project and organizational needs

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

* Interest in engineering, applied research, or energy‑related technologies

* Ability to think critically, analyze data, and apply technical concepts

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

* Willingness to learn and follow laboratory safety and testing procedures

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn technical software/tools as needed

Education and Experience

* Actively enrolled in an engineering, science, or related technical degree program

* Completion of at least one year of undergraduate coursework (varies by role)

* Preferred majors may include mechanical, chemical, electrical, process, systems, data science, or related disciplines

Pay Transparency

The pay range for this position is $17 - $28 USD per hour.
