Job Description & How to Apply Below
General Summary
The Engineering Rotational Development Program (ERDP) at GTI Energy gives top-performing recent graduates in Mechanical, Chemical, and Technical Engineering the opportunity to contribute to solving global energy challenges. This full-time, permanent role begins with a two-year, high-visibility rotational program that provides hands-on experience across a broad range of energy technology development and implementation activities.
Participants will complete up to four rotations, each approximately six months in duration, across the following departments:
Research & Engineering, Engineering Operations, Digital Analytics, and Zero Emissions Systems. Rotational placements are aligned with current priorities and evolving business needs. Throughout the program, associate engineers will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions while developing both technical depth and breadth across multiple disciplines.
Upon completion of the program, participants will transition into a permanent engineering role within GTI Energy in their chosen area of interest, positioning them for long-term career growth and impact.
Why GTI Energy?
GTI Energy embraces the power of innovation and collaboration to solve consequential energy challenges. By demonstrating continuous improvements in technology and solutions that lower the emissions and costs of energy, we will shape energy systems that decarbonize economies, protect our environment, and benefit the people they serve. We do this by putting people at the center of everything we do. We support and uplift people, ensuring they have the resources and confidence needed to live as their authentic selves and reach their full potential.
Being part of the GTI Energy team means being surrounded by people that are passionate and purpose driven, empowered to continuously learn, ask hard questions, and leverage their knowledge and experience to drive toward a greater purpose.
We offer generous benefits, competitive salaries, opportunities for professional growth and career advancement. We prioritize and maintain a respectful culture, and we ensure reasonable accommodation is made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their role.
Work Location
The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday but will depend on project expectations. While local candidates are preferred, GTI Energy does provide relocation assistance for the right candidate.
Primary Responsibilities
General roles include helping project managers (PMs) and principal investigators (PIs) manage technology and product development initiatives, including laboratory experimental and field demonstration research, managing project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and other project-specific needs. There will be other duties to perform as assigned. Below is an overview of the departments participating in the Engineering Rotational Development Program. Associate Engineers will complete six-month rotations aligned with evolving business needs:
Research & Engineering (R&E)

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze, validate, and document technical solutions that enhance safety, reliability, efficiency, and emissions reduction across evolving energy systems.
Engineering Operations
* Support the design, operation, and maintenance of laboratory and pilot-scale test facilities to advance the development and scale-up of energy technologies.
* Conduct analytical and chemical testing, ensure safe and reliable experimental operations, and deliver high-quality data to inform research, technology development, and commercialization efforts.
Digital Analytics
* Apply AI, advanced modeling, and data analytics to generate actionable insights for complex energy systems.
* Conduct lifecycle and techno-economic analyses, develop reproducible decision-support tools, and translate technical findings into clear guidance to support strategic and net-zero planning decisions.
Zero Emissions Systems Team (ZEST)
* Support the development of scalable, low-carbon solutions to enhance the resilience and performance of natural gas infrastructure.
* Contribute to methane reduction initiatives, safe and reliable system operations, and the integration of low- and no-carbon fuels to advance the transition to a Net Zero energy future.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
