Position: Assistant Principal for Student Support

Overview

Maine Township High School District 207 announces an administrative vacancy for the Assistant Principal (Student Supports) position beginning August 3, 2026.

The Assistant Principal for Student Support provides leadership and coordination of Tier 1-3 student support systems focused on behavior, attendance, and restorative practices. The Assistant Principal supports the implementation of equitable, student-centered approaches that promote engagement, accountability, and safety. This position supervises assigned staff, manages student interventions, and collaborates closely with administrators, counselors, and teachers to ensure a supportive and well-structured learning environment for all students.

Performance Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with District 207's administrative evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities.

Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal Endorsement required.
  • Completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation Growth Through Learning training modules (PERA-qualified).
  • Demonstrated experience in student discipline, restorative practices, and behavior management preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff to resolve conflicts and promote positive outcomes.

  • Engage in ongoing professional learning in the areas of restorative practices, trauma-informed leadership, and school safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Principal for Student Supports or Principal.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

It is expected that the candidate will present a record of successful experiences that indicate outstanding instructional leadership, collaboration, and performance in the following areas:

  • Lead and implement Tier 1 school-wide behavior systems aligned to the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
  • Support implementation of restorative practices to promote positive school culture and reduce exclusionary discipline.
  • Manage behavioral responses including detention, suspension, 45-day placements, and other interventions consistent with Board policy and state law.
  • Conduct student investigations related to behavioral incidents, ensuring due process and accurate documentation.
  • Develop, monitor, and communicate behavioral support and re-entry plans following disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Principal for Student Supports to ensure consistent behavioral practices across the building.
Attendance and Engagement
  • Monitor and promote student attendance through Tier 1 attendance systems and proactive intervention strategies.
  • Implement and manage attendance support plans, addressing chronic absenteeism in collaboration with the Student Services team.
  • Oversee social privileges eligibility and communication processes.
  • Conduct home visits and family meetings as part of attendance and engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as a member of the Attendance Committee, ensuring alignment of supports and documentation.
Student Interventions and Problem Solving
  • Lead or support Tier II and Tier III interventions to address student behavioral and social-emotional needs.
  • Participate in and facilitate 504 meetings as assigned, ensuring appropriate accommodations and behavioral supports are in place.
