PT Planning, Zoning, & Licensing Aide – Community & Economic Development Department
This role supports the division by reviewing applications, routing documents for approval, collecting fees, and assisting with records requests and administrative tasks. The City of Des Plaines is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused professional to support the Planning, Zoning, & Licensing Division. This position assists with processing licenses, registrations, and permits while providing front-line customer service. Responsibilities include reviewing applications, routing documents for approval, collecting fees, maintaining records, and assisting with administrative tasks and records requests.
Key Responsibilities:- Serve as a first point of contact for public inquiries related to licensing, permits, and division services
- Assist with business registrations and license applications (alarm, rental, tobacco, liquor, raffle, and special event)
- Review applications for completeness and process licenses and registrations
- Route documents for review, verify approvals, and issue licenses and permits
- Collect fees, process payments, and issue receipts
- Assist with FOIA requests and maintain division records and files
- Support administrative tasks and special projects as assigned
- Education & Experience: Two years of general office or customer service experience preferred. Additional education or related experience is a plus. High school diploma or GED required.

Experience with Microsoft Office and general data entry. Familiarity with permitting or licensing software such as Tyler Enterprise Permits & Licensing (Ener Gov) is helpful. - Technical

Skills:
Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to multitask, work independently, maintain confidentiality, and build positive working relationships. Bilingual skills are a plus.
