Overview
McAninch Corporation is a leader in the grading and underground utility industry. We are an employee-owned company recognized as an Iowa Top Workplace for the last 8 years. We partner with clients to provide mass grading, underground wet and dry utilities, excavation, and backfill services for residential and industrial construction projects in Iowa and Eastern Nebraska. McAninch Corporation is a seasonal construction contractor.
Our season typically runs from mid-March through mid-December. Some winter work may be available on certain projects, but is not guaranteed.
The Side/End Dump Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient transportation and unloading of construction materials using end-dump trucks or side-dump trailers. This role requires strict adherence to DOT regulations, company safety policies, and delivery schedules while maintaining accurate records and open communication with dispatch. The driver performs routine vehicle inspections, reports mechanical concerns, and ensures assigned equipment is kept clean and well maintained.
This position demands a commitment to safety, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in outdoor jobsite environments.
- Safely transport materials such as dirt, rock, aggregates, fuel, or water to and from construction sites primarily with an end dump truck or tractor pulling a side-dump trailer.
- Operate vehicle equipment to load, secure, and unload/disperse materials. Assist in manual loading, securing, and unloading when necessary.
- Maintain regular communication with the Transportation Director or dispatch via radio or phone to receive instructions, updates, or new assignments.
- Accurately maintain records of time, materials, quantities, and delivery locations for each load.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Keep all assigned trucks clean and well organized.
- Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to the Transportation Director or mechanics.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- CDL Class B license required for end dump trucks. CDL Class A license preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of CDL driving experience or completion of an approved CDL training program required.
- Manual transmission endorsement strongly preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age with a clean driving record and ability to meet company insurance requirements.
- Ability to travel outside of Central Iowa as required.
- Basic understanding of DOT regulations, permitting, and vehicle compliance requirements.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
- Must have good communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Must have effective time management skills and be able to work independently.
- Ability to meet DOT medical certification requirements.
- Ability to independently lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 lb.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend/squat, kneel, and twist on a frequent basis. Occasionally crawl.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial motor vehicle.
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs and maintain balance while performing work.
- Ability to work outdoors 100% of the time, including in hot, cold, and wet conditions.
- This position may require some sedentary duty.
- $30.35 per hour. Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week.
