Sr Software Engineer II (Formal Leader - Hybrid Only)

Principal Financial Group is seeking a senior technical solutions leader for our Workplace Personal Investing team.

As we build an innovative greenfield platform, you will design, develop, and maintain software solutions that support wealth management platforms and client‑facing applications in the investing product space.

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions for wealth management platforms and client‑facing applications.
• Grow the team’s ability to own and design all software development layers of a solution.
• Multiply the effectiveness of others by facilitating cross‑team work and guiding debates to reach consensus.
• Lead design and delivery of High Yield Savings platform components including account setup (FDIC, joint accounts), tax documentation, reporting, and revenue/cost tracking services.
• Architect secure, compliant, and extensible APIs to support both customer‑facing experiences and internal servicing workflows.
• Collaborate closely with compliance, finance, and data teams to embed regulatory and operational requirements into platform design.
• Guide the development of front‑end components for transaction views, account dashboards, and system alerts.
• Drive alignment across engineering and product teams to ensure seamless UI‑to‑service integration, strong error handling, and consistent eventing, logging, and lifecycle management.
• Partner with product managers and UX to deliver seamless customer onboarding and account servicing journeys.

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree (preference in computer science, technology, engineering, or math) and 8+ years of work experience or equivalent.
• 4+ years of AWS experience.
• 6+ years of front‑end or back‑end development experience.
• Formal or informal leadership experience.
• Experience with modern front‑end frameworks (React preferred) and cross‑browser responsive UI development.
• Experience leveraging industry‑leading vendors to achieve business and customer outcomes.

• Strong background in financial services or banking platforms, especially transactional and compliance‑based workflows.
• Hands‑on experience building event‑driven, cloud‑native applications (AWS preferred).
• Familiarity with front‑end integration best practices, REST APIs, error messaging standards, and accessibility.
• Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and scalable notification/eventing systems (e.g., SNS, SQS, Event Bridge).
• Hands‑on experience developing software solutions for wealth management or financial services applications.
• Advanced planning, organizational, problem‑solving, analytical, decision‑making, and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

$127,000 – $171,000 per year (exempt) / $127,000 – $171,000 per year (non‑exempt hourly). Salary based on location, experience, education.
