Overview

Join to apply for the Fuel Lube Technician role at S.M. Hentges & Sons Inc. We are seeking a Mobile Heavy Equipment & Fuel/Lube Mechanic to join our day shift. In this role, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain semi trucks and trailers to ensure their safe and efficient operation. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems, along with a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, recondition, repair, assemble, and service equipment as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Be knowledgeable on small engines heavy machinery for a civil contractor including CAT, Volvo and Komatsu.
  • Experience with and understanding of using computer diagnostic tools.
  • Understand a broad range of vehicle systems: engines, hydraulics, electronics, emissions, and power train on various brands of heavy equipment, semi-trucks, and trailers.
  • Possess a strong work ethic, lead by example, be self-motivated, and promote company values; conduct business with integrity and strive for excellence; motivated to succeed and improve skills.
  • Perform duties safely in a busy, sometimes stressful environment under varied weather conditions.
  • Observe and comply with all safety rules.
  • Understand teamwork and communication necessary to operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Operate power equipment in all phases of operations, including night conditions and emergency situations.
  • Perform routine maintenance; monitor gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Complete the necessary paperwork for the position; maintain a clean work area and care for shop tools and equipment.
  • Accurately complete a daily digital timecard.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Class B Hazmat REQUIRED
  • Class A CDL preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, computerized systems, and software for vehicle diagnostics.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to maintenance and repair of semi trucks and trailers.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with customers, supervisors, and team members.
