Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Master Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Des Moines, Iowa.

Video/Tech In Charge

  • Hourly Pay: $37.65 per hour
  • Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification up to $700
  • Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
  • Sign On Bonus: $2500 at 30 days and $2500 at 90 days
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday Weekends OFF
  • Hours:

    Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or Technical Certification or Post Secondary degree (preferred)
  • Basic tools (required)
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
    • Routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, brake and tire work
    • Diagnostics and repairs of AC, electrical systems
    • Advanced skilled level repairs including major engine repairs, diesel aftertreatment, or automotive fuel injection (required)
  • Four (4) or more years of relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Ability to read codes and instructions on the computer
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet, and related applications
  • Maintenance computerized programs for creating reports and communicating with customers, vendors, and company representatives
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet Ryder’s driving qualifications
  • Must meet minimum Tech II to Tech IV qualifications and have a minimum of 6 months supervisory or training experience
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including shift work, weekends, holidays, and on‑call rotations for roadside assistance
  • Proficiency in SMO, SBT, payroll system, warranty recovery, and employee handbook
  • Thorough understanding of unit utilization procedures
  • Must obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder Drug Test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Internal Candidates

Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 months in their current position and possess a record of good performance, attendance, safety and teamwork.

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for assisting and training Technicians as needed, providing customer service to the daily customers, and giving feedback to the Service Manager on the performance of employees for appraisal or disciplinary purposes
  • In addition, the Technician in Charge may also oversee parts distribution & inventory, shop reporting, warranty recovery, unit tracking, payroll administration and other duties assigned by the Supervisor/Manager
