Overview
Barista - Part Time position focused on cafe sales and beverage/food preparation with emphasis on food safety, cleanliness, customer service, and beverage production.
Responsibilities- Use related equipment: cappuccino machine, coffee grinder, coffee brewers, blender and convection oven.
- Open and close duties.
- Demonstrate cash register operation and money handling procedures.
- Hot and cold food production for retail sales.
- Maintain knowledge of and practice food safety codes and governing standards (federal, state, local, and accreditation agencies).
- Check food temperatures frequently; document temperatures on applicable forms; notify supervisor of any out-of-compliance items.
- Monitor temperatures of freezers, refrigeration, and heating units; document temperatures and notify supervisor of any out-of-compliance items.
- Maintain refrigeration units in clean, orderly condition in compliance with food codes and regulatory agencies.
- Requisition and transport foods and supplies to replenish inventory in the cafe.
- Inspect items for integrity; rotate stock and dispose of outdated or suboptimal items.
- Properly wrap, label, and date food items.
- Make coffee, juice and smoothies; replenish and clean beverage-dispensing machines and areas.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, coffee serving and seating areas, equipment, storage, countertops, tile, microwaves, tables, chairs, and tray return; sanitize utensils and equipment.
- Follow proper cleaning techniques; store chemicals properly, follow MSDS rules; label products, use chemicals as directed, and wear PPE as necessary.
- Practice safety procedures; use tools/equipment and PPE appropriately; inform supervisor of safety hazards and equipment failures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of effective customer service skills and performance improvement.
- Use standardized and non-standardized recipes and ingredients to prepare, create, and process foods.
- Assist in other areas as requested.
- Must be able to pass barista training within 2 months of hire.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; ability to read and write; ability to perform calculations and interact effectively with others.
- Restaurant or food service operations experience preferred.
