- Collaborates with nursing leadership and education professionals to coordinate, influence, and assist with the implementation of nursing care and related nursing activities at the nursing unit level.
- Assesses, develops, and implements orientation and education programs for department staff to positively impact the quality of patient care.
- Integrates the UnityPoint Health Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical orientation for nursing staff.
- Supports the clinical preceptor for effective clinical education of staff.
- Assesses the educational needs of staff and identifies learning needs.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of in-services and continuing education offerings for clinical staff using formal and informal teaching methods.
- Serves as a resource to clinical staff involved in patient care in the area of clinical expertise.
- Consults with nursing leadership regarding concerns/issues about clinical competence, equipment, and care delivery systems related to specific patient care problems/populations.
- Demonstrates interdisciplinary team membership, openness to feedback, and contribution to team goals.
- Uses formal and informal mentoring and just-in-time teaching methods.
- Supports development and evaluation of competency-based orientation and skills validation.
- Acts as a positive role model and resource for staff; maintains and develops own clinical skills and knowledge; stays informed about evidence-based nursing and research in the clinical area.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service; balances team and individual responsibilities and supports positive team outcomes.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. BSN preferred but not required.
Experience: Two years of experience in relevant clinical area required. Preference for a minimum of five years Med-Surg experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure in good standing as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, educational, and lifestyle backgrounds. Proficient in English. Multicultural sensitivity. Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. Customer/patient focused. Critical thinking with independent judgment in decision-making.
Other: Use of usual and customary equipment to perform essential functions of the position.
