Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd or 4th weekend as needed, including holiday rotation

Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is responsible for providing specialized, high-quality nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in a fast-paced intensive care environment. This role requires advanced clinical judgment, strong assessment skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
The NICU RN delivers patient-centered care in accordance with hospital policies, professional nursing standards, and regulatory requirements while supporting families during complex and emotionally sensitive situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to neonates requiring intensive and critical care interventions
- Perform continuous assessment, monitoring, and documentation of neonatal patient conditions
- Administer medications and therapies, including vasopressors, sedation, and glucose management
- Utilize advanced NICU equipment and technology safely and effectively
- Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatric intensivists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
- Educate and support parents and caregivers regarding treatment plans and neonatal care
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
- Float to General Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as needed
- Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement standards
Shift & Scheduling Notes
- Day shifts only
- 3 × 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours guaranteed)
- No call required
- Weekend and holiday rotation as scheduled
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of NICU / Neonatal Intensive Care experience (required)
- Experience and comfort administering vasopressors, sedation, and glucose therapies (required)
- Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the past 18 months
- Ability to float to General Pediatrics and PICU
- Active Iowa RN license or Compact/Multistate license at time of submission
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA or American Red Cross)
- NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
